Purchase Quintic Squash

Foreword by David Pearson
(England National Squash Coach)

"Peter Nicol has been the ultimate force in squash since the end of the Khan era. Over the past 6 years he has been ranked number 1 in the world for the majority of that period. He has won every title in the game and is seen as one of the great role models in world sport. His demeanour on the court is of the highest standard and his attitude off the court is exemplary. Peter has a great love of squash and part of his charm is the respect he shows for the game itself and those who work with him.

I have known Peter since he was 16 years old and even at that early stage I felt he had an unique and fresh talent. Peter came to live in Yorkshire and trained in Harrogate with me until the age of 19. My work then took me abroad and Peter went under the wing of Neil Harvey in London. Over the last 3 years I have been working again with Peter, funded by the Lottery England World Class Performance Plan. We have a good understanding and respect for each other and we still place a lot of emphasis on the technical side of game. Even though Peter is the best player in the world he is still willing to listen and take on new ideas in order to improve his game. His willingness to continue learning, coupled with amazing physical and mental strength, keeps him ahead of the chasing pack.

There is not a squash trophy in the world without Peter’s name on it. The titles dear to his heart are his first British Open win, when he beat the great Jansher Khan and winning the World title in Egypt. He is the only male squash player to have won 2 Commonwealth gold medals. His achievements have been recognised by him being awarded an MBE for services to squash.

Peter Nicol Squash gives you a great insight into how the game is played at the very top level, but it is also applicable to all standards of play. The voiceover analysis gives Peter's tactical ideas on how to build and execute a rally. The slow motion two angle video clips enable you to view the action from different perspectives, enhancing your understanding of the techniques and movements required. The text gives the technical components that are essential for any squash player to improve their game.

Peter Nicol Squash gives you the ability to analyse and improve your performance in a visual and interactive manner. Throughout the website Peter explains many of the subtleties of his game that may be missed in the heat of competitive match play.

I hope you enjoy using Peter Nicol Squash, I believe, is not only ahead of its time but will prove to be an inspirational squash tool. It is presented in an innovative and exciting way by the best squash player in the WORLD."

Stafford has worked with the South African Cricket Team, the Welsh Rugby Union, the International Rugby Board and won a BAFTA for his work with a Welsh Channel 4 (S4C) programme on Squash. However, it is his work with the English National Squash team that has been most rewarding.

"My two main career highlights were with squash. The first was being part of the whole team set up at the Manchester Commonwealth Games when the doubles won the gold. The second was being part of the women’s set up when the team won gold at the World Championships in 2000 for the first time in 12 years.

What is happening now with the English Institute of Sport is also pretty exciting. We are in the very lucky situation of working with the very best athletes in the world and hopefully we can help them attain their goals. By assisting the coach and the athlete in their quest for success you get an unbelievable sense of pride. There are some moments in sport that should stay with you forever."

That said, Stafford is ready for the challenges ahead. "As Performance Analysts we have to prove ourselves because we are the new kids on the block. When we have achieved this, we can then start to build up a good working relationship with athletes and coaches.

As a Performance Analysis it is essential to keep up with the changing demands of technology and the even faster demands of the coaches and athletes. If we are going to make the best better we have to listen and react to the needs of the sport. We need to be proactive in the ideas and solutions we provide but in a way that is not intrusive or confrontational."

Stafford was World U16 Number 1 squash player in 1991, England Junior Captain on 6 occasions and the youngest player to ever win a senior county title.
